New Glasgow Teen Sentenced After Knife-Point Carjacking and Police Chase
November 22, 2025 | New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
New Glasgow Regional Police are releasing details following the sentencing of an 18 year old man involved in a knife point carjacking and subsequent police pursuit earlier this fall.
On September 2, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of a business on Westville Road, near Highland Square Mall. The victim reported being approached by a male armed with a knife who demanded the keys to his vehicle, a 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class valued at over $50,000.
The suspect fled the area in the stolen vehicle before officers arrived.
A short time later, patrol members located the Mercedes traveling eastbound on Park Street. When officers activated emergency lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect accelerated away at high speed, leading police on a pursuit along East River Road. Due to the suspect’s erratic driving and the potential risk to the public, additional units were dispatched to assist.
The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Temperance Street and Archimedes Street, where the suspect lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped a parked SUV. The suspect exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers apprehended the male near Carmichael Park a short time later.
The accused, Dylan Harding, 18, of New Glasgow, was taken into custody without further incident. A knife was recovered at the scene.
Harding was subsequently charged with:
Robbery with a weapon
Assault with a weapon
Theft over $5,000
Flight from peace officer
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
On November 22, 2025, Harding appeared in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and entered guilty pleas to the charges. He received a total sentence of 4 years and 3 months in custody, along with a 10-year weapons prohibition, a two-year driving ban, and restitution orders for damages to the stolen Mercedes and the parked vehicle struck during the pursuit.
New Glasgow Regional Police would like to thank members of the public who provided timely information during the incident and commend the quick response of officers who ensured the matter was resolved safely.
